Shujra, Farooq & Hashmi (SFH) was founded at the cusp of the new decade. Pakistan’s pivotal position in the world and ever-shifting local and global circumstances have affected legislative frameworks, legal procedures, and the practice of law deeply. The partners of SFH, recognising this change, founded the firm to deliver and develop new and creative approaches to adapt to the changing legal landscape.

Malik Sohail Ashiq Shujra

Mr. Shujra has vast experience as a litigator before the High Courts, lower courts and specialist tribunals of Pakistan.

He has appeared on behalf of and advised the textile, cotton, flour, banking, and education sectors, in addition to representing public sector entities such as the Securities Exchange Commission of Pakistan and State Life Insurance Company.
He is also well versed with laws relating to oil, gas, and power generation; and has a number of reported judgements to his credit on these and other areas of law.
Mr. Shujra’s expertise is not limited to litigation – he began his career with Bhandari, Naqvi & Riaz where he was exposed to corporate and commercial legal work. He has also remained associated with the former Governor of Punjab, Malik Muhammad Rafiq Rajwana, leading his cases in Mr. Rajwana’s stead when he was Governor.
Mr. Shujra’s extensive experience has given him the unique ability to provide quick and timely strategic advice to navigate the court systems of Pakistan – which he follows up with his flair and dexterity in the courtroom.

Muhammad Ali Farooq

Mr. Farooq spent the first few years of his legal career at Mandivawalla & Zafar and Bhandari, Naqvi & Riaz where he worked on high-profile constitutional cases before the High Courts...

And the Supreme Court and also gained wide-ranging experience in corporate and commercial legal advisory and drafting.
After having gained hands-on litigation and advisory experience, Mr. Farooq worked with the Government of Punjab, in a unit created to establish the ‘Punjab Public Health Agency’. He utilised his expertise in constitutional and administrative law to draft the legislation for the creation of the agency and saw it through various stages – where he was appreciated for his pragmatic approach to cut through red tape and became recognised as a problem-solver. It is these abilities that have enabled him to represent and advise other public sector entities such as Pakistan Railways as well.
Mr. Farooq has taken his abilities as a pragmatic problem solver to the private sector as well. He provides legal consultancy services to KPMG Taseer Hadi & Co. where he advises on taxation law and litigation, in addition to routinely holding training sessions and seminars for auditors on law and tax reforms.

Zeeshaan Zafar Hashmi

Mr. Hashmi was an editor of the Harvard International Law Journal and a recipient of the Islamic Legal Studies Program Writing Prize at Harvard Law School for his thesis on constitutional law.

Mr. Hashmi has extensive experience in litigation and corporate advisory,having represented and advised banking, food and beverage, power generation, accounting, telecom, cement, and other industries as well as public sector entities such as Sui Northern Gas Pipelines, the Ministry of Petroleum and the Private Power Infrastructure Board. In addition to this, he has worked with the Attorney-General for Pakistan on international disputes and arbitrations. Recently, Mr. Hashmi has successfully litigated Pakistan’s first class-action case on behalf of airline pilots against the Civil Aviation Authority.
Mr. Hashmi has become a well-known name in legal academia, having established the first moot court coaching classes for law students in Pakistan.He currently teaches at Pakistan College of Law and regularly writes for local and international law reviews.
